Safety

Hwange National Park is a safe destination, in our opinion, especially if you’re traveling on an organized tour. A self-drive safari is also an option, but always get local advice on road conditions and safety before heading off. For current information about safety in Zimbabwe, check the government travel advisories (see the ‘Governments’ Travel Advice for Zimbabwe’ link below).

Malaria & Vaccinations

Hwange is in a malaria zone. To protect yourself, you should apply mosquito repellent (those containing DEET are most effective) and take antimalarial drugs. There are a few vaccinations recommended before traveling to Zimbabwe. Seek advice from your health-care professional or local travel clinic.
